Most boats of any size at all are built with an area under the deck that you stand on that contains various items, such as wiring, steering and throttle cables. Without it you would have these items cluttering your deck which you do not want. The problem is that you have to have a way to access these items possibly with an access port. Water has a tendency to leak into the bilge from these locations and without a means to drain them the bilge would eventually fill up. Most boats also have plugs that can be removed in order to drain the bilge but only once you have removed the boat from the water. The problem there is that many times boat operators forget to put the plugs in and start taking on water into the bilge, thus the need for a pump to pump out the water and hopefully you can get the boat back on the trailer before it sinks into the depths below. Fix it because your life and that of your family depends on it.

The bilge pump is used to pump the water out that collects in the boat. Most boats have them. Water collects in all boats eventually. Alot of water can collect from heavy storms, or if you forget to put your plug in lol. You do need to get one. If too much water collects it could get into your oil tank or even sink the boat. They make automatic bilge pumps that come on when the water gets to a certain level. These are good if you don't know you are taking on water. They are rated by gpm or gallons per minute. Middle of the road pumps should be fine.

I'm not sure on that particular make, but most boats have different pumps for the bilge and the livewell.

it pumps water out of your bilge which is the lowest part of your hull, and a bulge pump is what they use for liposuction

It pumps out all the water and sludge that collects in the bottom of the boat. without it, your boat could sink!

sounds like you just bought a leaker--it is the pump that pumps fluids from the very bottom of your boat over the side!
