Note: I use chest waders when working/fishin' rivers (Hodgeman brand), mainly because I don't have ta' worry bout' water runnin' into the tops of them boots when I have a' fish on ;) ;)...

There's been a few answers as to where to get them. I will tell you the pro's and cons of each type; Bootfoot vs. Stockingfoot..

The bootfoot are good for the easy on - easy off thing. They are also good in cold water situations because the airspace above your toes acts as an insulator and retains some of the heat from your feet.

The cons with bootfoot waders are...They dont give you as much ankle support. When you do a lot of climbing up and down the slippery riverbanks, or crossing rivers with slippery rocks, that can be an inconvenience. They can also blister your foot or ankle by doing that kind of climbing too.

The Stockingfoot type allow you to choose your boot type and the lace up boot gives much better ankle support than bootfoots. This can make a long day on the river much more comfortable than the boot foots.

The cons of the stockingfoot waders are that in cold water, you dont have the air pocket above your toes so your feet conduct their heat directly out to the water. A pair of good socks can help alleviate this problem. Stockingfoot waders also take a little more time to put on than bootfoots. That may sound petty but in the fall when you only have an hour or so after work, the faster you can gear up and get in the water...the better. Stockingfoot waders and the boots also cost a few more bucks than the bootfoots but I prefer them just for the ankle support they provide.

Just some things to consider.

I suggest you get the chest waders (overalls) for a few extra bucks they are well worth it. They will help you reach many more places without getting wet. Here's a nice article on fly fishing for an overlooked hatch.

any decent fly fishing shop should carry hip waders. bass pro shop and cabela's as well as any of the other mail order outlets.

but stay away from used. why is that guy getting rid of them, hmmm?leak, perhaps?

l just use wading shoes so not to slip on rocks, and shorts.
