I bought a Eagle brand made by Lowrance years ago and it was great. Also Lowance is name brand. If i remember right it was $149.99. Used it for Ice Fishing and on my boat.Hummingbird is also good.Go to a local Walmart.

My husband just bought me one for my birthday. It's made by Humminbird, it's called a Smartcast. It's a small beacon about the size of a potato that floats in the water and transmits information to a watch that you wear on your wrist. It shows depth, contours and fish. The beacon can double as a bobber for pan fishing. You can also buy the double beacon (which we had to get for him) which allows you to switch from A to B. We put our beacon on a short stubby pole and we can cast it where we want it and also reel it back. It works. I love mine. The double beacon was about $70.
