Well, get a bank that is accessible, and hopefully flat. If you happen to see any type of "downed trees" fish around there for bass, or, around rocky shores. They love to hide in the rocks, but then again, you need to use a barber or float to save your hooks and lines.

For catfish, fish around embukments or pilings or piers.

I use worms for all fish. Chunks of fish for catfish, doughball, or smelly chunks of raw meat that has been setting in the sun or has a strong odor.

Flies, and spinner baits for bass. Rappellas for deep water, off of piers, or boats.

you cant always do this in every river but i do this in alot of rivers in oregon. i swim out to a rock that is in the middle of the river that has a relatively slow spot ahead of it, and i cast up stream and let the current bring it down as i reel in slowly. i have done this with and caught numerous fish in crooked river in oregon. i also have jimmy rigged a system with a rope and an innertube where i tie a rope from one side of the river to the other and get a rope and attatch it on the middle and then tie that onto an inner tube and just sit in the middle of the river and do the same thing as on a rock

Ontario Canada has great rivers. It is a nice outing to stroll the banks and cast into pools. I use small hooks with a couple of kernals of corn as bait. Canned green giant works for me.
