I have several cork-handled rods. The majority of them are straight cork, but a couple of my rods are PowerHumped and pistol-gripped. I have one rod that is a plastic pistol grip. There may be a few rods that have straight foam handles, but they're mostly saltwater rods.

I prefer a straight cork-handled rod.

My rods either have the straight cork or EVA foam. I could never do the pistol grip, I have seen a few people throw their rods in the lake or have it pulled out of their hands by a fish. There is something very cartoon like seeing a fishing rod being pulled out of somebodies hand. I have almost lost a couple but having those few inches of rod handle allowed me to catch the rod before going into the drink. You forgot about the new split grip which I own one and like a lot.

I use spinning reels exclusively for bass fishing and prefer the straight EVA foam handles. They are more durable than the cork and last longer.
