they are probably just goofing around, making forts, sharpening sticks, and stuff. or their just throwing their fish back. or maybe they aren't patient with fishing, and the take the pole out of the water every other seconds. hows about next time you go along with them. if they tell you to go back, then somethin fishy is goin on (haha lol). but if you go there with them and they fish, and they catch fish, then somethin fishy is goin on, think about it, how come they catch fish no that you are there, and not all the other days. now i honestly think they are doing somethin weird and you have to be onto them, unless you go and fish with them and they really dont catch any fish.

Well the best way to catch fish during the day varies. You should go to the local baitshop and ask for fishing reports. If none are available just cast your bait out as far as you can on the bottom(i usually catch piggy perch).

fishing off a pier during the day this time of year should produce some Spanish Mackerel, Lady Fish, and depending where you are a host of other game fish. Try using a spoon the color really is determined by the fish. Live bait is always a top choice. Good luck I hope this gives you a starting point.

Let me give you some sound advice. If you live near a jetties, try there. Anyway I fished from land in Jacksonville for many years and caught red fish, trout and flounder mostly. The type of fish varies with the area. Maybe a bridge in an inter coastal waterway or a back bay. As far as a pier goes, I never cared much for that. There is a lot of good fishing from the bank or even wade fishing. Again I would target the big 3 as I like to refer to them(reds, trout and flounder). If you get a cast net you can save a bundle on bait. I prefer mud minnows, finger mullet and live shrimp. Maybe I didn't exactly answer your question but I guess I'm trying to steer you away from waisting your time on a pier. It all depends on how serious of a fisherman you want to become!
