i'm looking to redo this boat as i only use it on small lakes/ponds it should do fine. the gas motor that i previously used no longer runs. i'm looking for something that will let this boat cruise easily around with some decent battery life. the motors that i'm looking at are minn kota endura 30/36/55.

I'd recommend a 36 or higher. Keep in mind at the top speed setting the battery life of an average deep cycle battery will only be about 2 hours. You might get a little more time out of top-of-the-line deep cycle batteries (like the Batteries Plus Optima). I'd suggest getting two batteries (make sure they're deep cycle batteries, regular car batteries will drain much, much faster) and hooking them in parallel. This will double the time you can spend on the water.

Get the 55...the drain on the battery is only slightly more but the thrust is noticeably better and you can always run it on a lower speed to conserve. Also, go to Sears and get a good MARINE DEEP CYCLE trolling battery (approx cost $80.00)....make sure you don't get a cranking battery. If you charge it every time you come back from going out you'll get a good 3-4 years use from it....never store it directly on concrete!! Tight Lines!!

PS: I run a Sears Die Hard battery on the front trolling motor of my boat which is a motorguide 42 lb thrust and I can go 10 hours or more on a fully charged battery...if you only get 2 hours you are doing something wrong!

For this size. For a gas motor, about a 3-5 hp will do just fine. For a trolling motor a 35 lb would be fine. But if you want to troll a bit faster, a 55 will be just fine
